The M.O.D were quite specific about the procedure if we did find the plane and we were obliged not to touch anything until the whereabouts of the pilot were definitely established. These conditions were rigidly adhered to throughout the searches.
I also researched the weather on the day of the crash to check the position of the oil slick and this proved to be most helpful. The note at the base of the weather report dated November 1977 proved to be a valid prediction.
