Boat Log and Authorisation

Boat Log

  •  What is a boat log?

Our boat log is an aide memoir for users and is a means of reporting faults or occurrences to the boat officer.

  •   What are the purposes of the log?

A boat log, as issued by D&G Sub Aqua Club has four main purposes.

1)      To ensure all important items on the boat are fitted and serviceable.

2)      To ensure a comprehensive check is made of the trailer before setting off.

3)      To ensure that the person taking charge of the boat meets all the required criteria.

4)      To ensure all faults are noted and reported to the boat officer after each dive.

  • Who keeps the logs?

Logs may be obtained from the boat officer or the treasurer or printed from this page.

  • Who fills in the logs?

The log should be completed by the person authorised by the boat officer on the day.

  • When is the log filled in?

The log should be completed prior to setting off on any dive and the latter half completed before the boat is returned to the boat officer.

What happens to the log after the boat is returned?  The log becomes a “service history” for the boat and ensures that all faults reported are corrected where possible before the next trip. It should be made available to the next user to confirm all reported faults have been repaired.

Authorisation

  • What is authorisation dependant upon?

Completing the branch boat handling course, gaining the necessary experience, demonstrating competence and aptitude at all times, and approval by boat committee in writing.

  • Who can authorise me?

The boat committee.

  • What are my responsibilities when authorised?

To ensure that all aspects concerning the boat, trailer and equipment are in order before commencing any expedition.  To ensure that the boat is always correctly and safely handled, giving due regard at all times to others on, or in the water and to return the boat in good order, and the completed log to the Boat Officer.

  • What happens if I damage the boat?

Damage to the total of £100.00 must be paid by the party using the boat at the time it was damaged.  Repairs in excess of £100.00 will be paid for by the branch, subject to consultation with the committee.

Golden Rules

It is better to have absolutely no idea where you are, than to be totally convinced that you are somewhere you’re not!
